This course provides training in basic care for adults and the elderly. Students will be prepared to take the state certification exam at the end of the course in order to be listed on the NC state registry for Nurse Aides.

This course provides instruction of clinical skills performed in medical offices including aseptic technique, infection control practices, EKG monitoring, CPR, phlebotomy, wound care, and vital signs. Upon successful completion of this course, students are eligible to take the national CCMA certification exam (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant) through NHA.

**Prerequisites: HS Diploma or equivalency; Successful completion of MOAST or proof of at least one year of experience in a medical office; Background Check

This course provides training in the principles of EKG, cardiac rhythms, and includes instruction in the anatomy and physiology of the heart. Skills include vital signs, operating EKG equipment, running and mounting strips, as well as reading and interpreting cardiac lead tracings. Students are prepared to sit for the national certification exam for Certified EKG Technician (CET) through NHA.

This course provides entry level training in the fundamentals of Coding and Billing for a career as a professional coder in healthcare settings. Emphasis is placed on Medical Terminology and Anatomy & Physiology.

This course builds on the knowledge gained from the Basic Coding course and prepares students to take the National Coder’s Certification Exam through AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders).

**Prerequisites: HS Diploma or equivalency; Completion of Basic Coding

This course provides training in the skills required to work in the front office of medical practices. Course instruction includes medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, billing/coding, electronic records, and various office procedures. At the end of this course, students are eligible to take the national certification exam for CMAA (Certified Medical Administrative Assistant) through NHA. This course is a prerequisite for the CCMA class.

This course provides the opportunity for Nurse Aides to expand their skill set. Medication Aides work in long-term care facilities. This course does not meet the requirements for assisted living facilities.

**Prerequisites: HS Diploma or equivalency; Current listing on the NC Nurse Aide Registry

This course provides a review for Nurse Aides with an expired certification within the last 3 years and preparation for the NC state Nurse Aide certification exam.

This course provides theory and clinical practice for the safe collection of blood and other specimens. Topics of study include universal precautions, infection control, ethics, medical terminology, health care delivery systems, patient relations, and anatomy/physiology. At the end of this course, students may take the CPT (Certified Phlebotomy Technician) exam through NHA.

This course prepares the student to function efficiently and safely in a variety of pharmacy settings. Pharmacy Technicians must have a broad knowledge of pharmacy practice, and be skilled in the techniques required to order, package, and prepare medications. This course requires a grade level of 80% with no more than 20% absences from the 244 total course hours.

Upon successful completion, students can apply to sit for the Pharmacy Technician certification exam (PTCE) given by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. The cost of the exam is $129.00 (subject to change) Students are responsible for the cost of the exam which is not included in the registration fee.  More information about the exam can be found at www.ptcb.org.

Pre-requisites: HS diploma/equivalency and the TABE math test are required to register for this class. Students should present their HS diploma/equivalency and a copy of the TABE test score at the time of registration. The TABE test is given free of charge and takes approximately 1 hour to complete.
