Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training prepares students for entry-level positions in emergency pre-hospital care. Eligible to take NCOEMS State Exam upon successful completion. May meet on some Saturdays. The registration fee is $180 + associated supply fees, books, and uniform costs.

Spring 2026
Class 1: EMT Initial Training: January 21, 2026 – May 11, 2026
Class meetings will be Mondays-Thursdays + Saturdays, from 6pm-10pm, in the Training Room of the Shepherds Fire Department. The cost of the class is $380 + books and other course related fees.
Class 2: EMT Initial Training: January 22, 2026 – May 18, 2026
Class meetings will be Mondays-Thursdays + Saturdays, from 6pm-10pm, in room 102 of The Health Sciences Building in Statesville. The cost of the class is $380 + books and other course related fees.
You must present a copy of your diploma for HSE, GED, HS or college. If you are a college student and have not completed your degree, send a copy of your transcript to James Larsen at jlarsen@mitchellcc.edu
You will need to provide documentation of immunizations for the following: Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap, and MMR. Students will also need to get the Quantiferon Gold TB Test.
Before issuing the state EMT certification, the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS) will do a complete background check. This background check is separate from the background check you will receive in class.”
