Counseling Information

Mitchell provides 3 different ways to connect you with professional support staff to help you navigate emotional and mental needs while in college.  Most students use at least one service during their time at Mitchell.  We provide 3 ways because we realize each student is different and unique.

If you want to talk to a professional in person, Mitchell provides a private, secure, on-campus location to meet.  Simply call (704) 978 – 3118 or email Dr. Sanchez at and set up a time.  Most students can be seen on the same day. If you are unsure of whether you need to see someone answer the questions at the bottom of this webpage.

If you want to talk to a professional on the phone, Mitchell provides this free confidential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. Simply call (800) 633 – 3353 and speak with a professional.  The service is also open to family members.  Services include mental health counseling, crisis intervention, legal support services, financial literacy, marital services and child care support. To find out more about these services, please visit MYgroup SAP Student Assistance Program.

If you want a weekly “check in” text from a professional support person, Mitchell provides this service. If you opt in to this service, the college automatically sends you a text once a week to check in.  Your response determines if support action is needed.  This has proven to be one of the most effective tools in helping students think weekly about how they are doing mentally.  We want all Mitchell students to be a part of this free service.  Text “join” to 919-568-1521 or 919-598-1520 to get started.
