The Mitchell Community College Summer Advantage Program is designed to help first year students gain college experience and develop a network of support prior to the beginning of their first year.  Summer Advantage serves a diverse community of first year students in a six-week academic program.  Students take one course, and meet staff who will support them during the academic year. The one course is ACA 122 College Transfer Success. Students engage in activities to support their academic and social experiences.

All incoming first-year students can apply.

Eligible students must:

Complete the Mitchell Admissions Application
Be available to attend the entire Summer Advantage Program
Complete the Summer Advantage Application
Complete 2024-2025 FAFSA (preferred)

We are excited you are interested in the Summer Advantage Program.  Here are some dates we want you to remember:

Application Due: June 7

Orientation: June 13 (4-5:30 p.m.)

Classes: June 21 – July 26

Class meeting dates and times (Wednesdays ONLY) (9 a.m. – Noon): June 21, June 28, July 12, July 19, July 26

Summer Advantage is a free program sponsored by Mitchell Community College.

In Summer Advantage students will make friends, meet faculty, and learn to navigate Mitchell!

*Research suggests that participating in a high-quality, challenging summer transition program, like the Summer Advantage Program, followed by comprehensive support throughout the academic year, increases academic excellence, engagement within the university with peers, and a strong sense of belonging to the community college.

Students who participate in the program: 

  • Receive academic credit
