After a month of celebrating Black history with informational displays, exhibits, and activities on campus during the month of February, the celebration culminated with Mitchell Community College’s Celebration of Black and African-American Composers music concert, hosted by the College’s music department at Mac Gray Auditorium at Statesville High School. The concert received a tremendous amount of support from the public, faculty, staff and students with a packed auditorium.
The concert featured musical performances by the Mitchell Band, Mitchell Chorus, Mitchell Inspirational Choir and Mitchell AFA in Music Students. Performances captured the essence of Black History Month by celebrating the creativity of African American music like spirituals or Jazz, and the nuanced sounds of brass instruments, wind instruments, piano performances and multiple musical collaborations.
