Southern States Machinery Golf Tournament Raises More Than $47,000 for Mitchell Community College Student Scholarships

Mitchell Community College is proud to share that the annual Southern States Machinery Golf Tournament at Mooresville Golf Club raised more than $47,000 to support Mitchell’s Machining and Welding students. The total includes over $45,000 in donations from tournament participants and sponsors, as well as $2,000 raised on-site through the auction of a firepit handcrafted by Mitchell Welding students.

Proceeds benefit the Southern States Machinery Scholarship, which helps Mitchell students gain hands-on training, develop advanced technical skills, and prepare for high-demand careers in manufacturing and the skilled trades.

“Southern States Machinery is proud to continue our annual golf tournament sponsoring the Mitchell Community College Manufacturing & Welding Programs,” said Bill Plourd, CMTSE, Executive Vice President, Southern States Machinery, Inc. “Investing in local education and supporting the next generation of skilled manufacturing professionals is vital to the growth of our industry and our community. We are honored to partner with Mitchell Community College in shaping a bright future for these talented students.”

“When industry, education, and community partners come together, incredible opportunities are created for our students,” said Dr. Tim Brewer, President of Mitchell Community College. “The generosity shown through this tournament is an investment in the future workforce of our region. We are grateful to Southern States Machinery and all of the sponsors, donors, and participants whose support is helping our students develop the skills they need to succeed in high-demand careers.”

The College extends its sincere appreciation to Southern States Machinery for its continued leadership and investment in workforce development. Through its ongoing support, the company is helping students pursue their educational goals while strengthening the future talent pipeline for our region’s manufacturing industry.
