The Social and Human Services curriculum teaches empathy, fosters social justice, and can create lasting, positive changes in communities. The Community Resources Management class helps students to use local services to assist clients, manage community support systems, and build partnerships. Creating this guide was a rewarding way to advocate for Iredell County residents in need; we are proud to share resources that provide not only food, housing, transportation, as well as many other support systems, but also hope.
This 2026 Community Resource Guide serves as a bridge, connecting our neighbors with essential agencies that can help Iredell County residents receive the basics of living so they can thrive and find stability. The partnership we formed empowered us to make a difference in our community. Our heart’s desire is that this guide will assist human service workers in meeting the needs of their clients in a respectful, supportive manner. We hope our work has embodied the core values of the human services field, and to capture the essence of compassionate service.
Keosha Beatty, Linda Rogers, Janet Heatherdale, Tiffany Lambert, Donna Larkin, Katie McElwee, Macayla Redderson, and Tahelia Eddings created this guide and are dedicated to their work as Mitchell Community College students as well as community advocates.
At Mitchell Community College, we are continually reminded that student success extends far beyond the classroom. Every day, we work with students navigating real-life challenges, like access to food, housing, transportation, healthcare, legal assistance, and more. Addressing these needs is essential to supporting their ability to persist and succeed.
This Community Resource Guide, developed by eight students in the HSE-155 Community Resource Management course, is a powerful example of learning in action. Under the leadership of instructor Sally Dellinger, students were challenged to “pay it forward”—and they have done so in a meaningful and lasting way. Through research, collaboration, and a commitment to service, they have created a practical tool that will benefit not only their peers, but the broader community.
This guide connects individuals to critical resources including food
assistance, substance use support, legal services, developmental disability services, transportation, housing, healthcare, hygiene, career development, education, and more. Having a comprehensive, up-to-date resource like this available in our offices is invaluable. It allows us to respond more effectively and
compassionately to the needs of those we serve.
