The College will close when weather conditions are such that driving is hazardous. We encourage you to monitor your information channels following the initial announcement in case weather conditions improve or worsen.

Please keep in mind that Mitchell Community College may have classes even when Iredell-Statesville and Mooresville Graded Public Schools are closed.

Scenarios

In the event of inclement weather, Mitchell Community College will decide to follow one of the following three scenarios. Click each scenario below to learn more:

If it appears that ice or snow may be cleared by mid-morning, the Mitchell will operate on a delayed opening.

For example, if the college is operating on a 2-hour delay, then the college would open at 10 a.m.

Students should report to the class, lab, or clinic they would typically be in at that time. If your class is scheduled from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. on the day that the delay is announced, you would go to that class at 10 a.m. Classes after 10 a.m. or later will operate on a regular schedule.

Students should check their LMS for specific assignments or messages from their instructors.

Virtual Learning Day (Schedule A) means all Mitchell campuses will be closed with no students, faculty, or staff on campus.

All students will operate on a Virtual Learning Day. Students, check your LMS or email for further instructions.

All faculty/staff will operate on a Remote Work Day. Contact your supervisor for more information.

Limited Closure / Virtual Learning (Schedule B) means that Mitchell campuses will run on a limited closure, with specific programs keeping a regular schedule while other students and programs operate virtually.

Students should check their LMS or college email for further instructions.

A list of programs operating on Schedule B will be provided in the College’s official communications.

College Closed (Schedule C) means all Mitchell Community College campuses are closed with no services or operations.

Schedule C means a disruption or the possibility of a disruption in college services and operations (e.g., power outage, water services, network infrastructure, etc.), which prohibits students from participating in virtual learning and impedes employees from working remotely.

When weather conditions dictate early dismissal of day classes, the announcement will be made to each class, on the Mitchell website, via local media, as well as the college’s social media channels.
