Kathryn Dean was born and raised in the north of England where she gained a Bachelor of Music Degree at Lancaster University. She went on to achieve a Post Graduate Certificate of Music Education from Birmingham Polytechnic and taught classroom music for four years in UK high schools before moving to North Carolina in 1993. While living in Durham, she was the middle school band director at Durham Academy, which is a private K-12 college prep school. She gained a Master’s of Music Education from Florida State University and continued to teach elementary music in a K-12 school in Panama City, Florida. During that time, she passed the National Board For Professional Teaching Standards. After moving back to Mooresville, North Carolina, she taught music for an additional three years at a local elementary school. Since 2012, she has been teaching private piano and guitar lessons from home.
