Graduation Info

Congratulations! You are one step closer to completing your certificate, diploma or associate degree at Mitchell Community College! If you are eligible for graduation in spring 2024 you should have received an email informing you of that, the second week of February. If you think you are eligible for graduation but you did not receive an email notification, please consult with your advisor. You can locate your advisor’s name and email address in your Self-Service account.

Graduation Ceremonies

  • Graduates can register for the ceremony time that best suits their schedule (registration form will open on February 19). There are 150 spaces for graduates at each ceremony. Register early to secure your preferred time slot. You will need to inform your guests as to which ceremony you will be walking in, after you have registered.
  • Both ceremonies will be live streamed for your family and friends who cannot attend in person.
  • American sign language interpreters will be present at both ceremonies and will be shown in the live stream.

Graduation Requirements

Graduation eligibility is determined by the Office of Student Records. Official notification of pending graduation is sent from our office to the student email account during the last semester of credential completion.

The following requirements apply to programs. Some divisions may have additional requirements.

  • Students in associate degree programs are required to make satisfactory scores on the reading placement test or successfully complete reading requirements.
  • Students may graduate under the catalog upon which they enter or any subsequent catalog in effect while they remain in continuous enrollment. If a student changes from one program to another, he/she must graduate under the catalog in effect at the time of the change or any subsequent catalog while he/she remains in continuous enrollment. Continuous enrollment excludes summer semester.
  • Students must earn a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 and must receive a passing grade in all required courses to be eligible for graduation.
  • A minimum of 25% of the credits required for a degree, diploma, or certificate must be earned at Mitchell.
  • To be eligible for graduation, the student must fulfill all financial obligations to Mitchell.
  • Students with at least 50% of their curriculum requirements completed at Mitchell are eligible for honors at graduation.

    High Honors–Students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or greater.
    Honors – Students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 to 3.74

    Certificate programs do not qualify for honors.

  • Freshmen enrolled in a program of study and who have the highest grade point averages and have earned a minimum of 12 semester hours credit are selected marshals.

Graduation Eligibility Notification

Students who are eligible to complete a certificate, diploma, or degree at the end of a semester will be notified of their graduation eligibility via their student email account. If you believe you qualify for completing a credential and you have not been notified by the semester cutoff {see current date below}, please see your academic advisor. Summer graduates need to view the Summer Graduates section below for specific directions.

Notification emails will be sent to students on or before November 20, 2023. If you do not receive a notification for a credential you believe you should receive for Fall 2023, please contact your academic advisor.

Notification emails will be sent to students on or before April 4, 2024. If you do not receive a notification for a credential you believe you should receive for Spring 2024, please contact your academic advisor. 

You must register for your courses by April 15, 2024 if you wish to participate in the May 2024 Commencement Ceremony. Check the Summer Graduates section below for more information.

If you receive a non-passing grade in a course that is required for your program completion, you will not be graduated at the end of the term. If your instructor contacts our office to have the grade changed, you will need to notify us of your pending graduation. Send an email to graduation@mitchellcc.edu to let us know that your program is now complete because of a change of grade.

Additional Information

  • The cap, gown and tassel set is $46.84 plus $3.16 tax = $50.00. The set will be available for purchase from the Mitchell Bookstore beginning on February 19, 2024. All purchases are final.
  • You can also find information on ordering a class ring, diploma frame and graduation invitations at the Mitchell Bookstore.

Graduation commencement is a formal ceremony. We ask that you do not decorate your cap or gown.

Students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa or the National Society of Leadership & Success may wear appropriate pins and stoles. Please see your organization advisor, Austin Leviner, for information about ordering club regalia. aleviner@mitchellcc.edu 
If you have been awarded a medallion or lapel pin at a Mitchell Awards Day ceremony, you may wear those to graduation.
    • A photo will be taken by a professional from Grad Images as you receive your diploma cover from the college president on stage. There may be other photos taken of you as well.
    • If you wish to purchase those photos, you can register here in advance for a 20% discount. Registering does not require that you make a purchase. Grad Images will email the proofs to your student email a week or two after graduation.

The sales representative from Herff Jones is offering an event for graduates to coordinate a time to work with her if you are interested in information about a class ring and/or actually placing an order. The dates and times for scheduling an appointment are:

  •     Wednesday, April 10    1-3 p.m. and 4:30-5:30 p.m.
  •     Thursday, April 11         1-3 p.m.
  •     Tuesday, April 16          1-3 p.m. and 4:30-5:30 p.m.
  •    Wednesday, April 17     1-3 p.m.

Summer Graduates

Students completing a credential in the summer semester who want to walk in the May Commencement ceremony must self-identify with the Office of Student Records by the stated deadline. Failing to do so will result in the student’s name not being published in the Commencement Program, as well as not having a name card for announcement during the ceremony.

  • If you wish to walk in the May Commencement ceremony, you must register for your Summer 2024 courses by April 15, 2024.
  • If you do not wish to walk in the May Commencement ceremony, you may register for your courses through the end of the registration period.
    • Summer graduates who want to walk in the May 2024 Commencement ceremony must notify the Registrar’s Office that they plan on walking by emailing graduation@mitchellcc.edu by Sunday, April 14, 2024. Print materials for the ceremony will be sent out the following week. Failing to email by the stated deadline will result in the student’s name not being published in the Commencement Program, as well as not having a name card for announcement during the ceremony.
