For the past 15 years, Mitchell’s Community Band has been noted for making great music for delighted audiences in Iredell County. With dozens of dedicated and talented local musicians, the Community Band performs seasonal, holiday and special concerts for the campus and community. Our players include amateur and professional musicians, high school students and senior citizens. There are no fees and no auditions, and anyone with an instrument and a desire to perform may join the group, regardless of prior training and experience.
The Community Band is directed by Jack Horner, whose credentials include serving as director of award-winning high school bands in four states and performing professionally with orchestras, Holiday on Ice and Ringling Brothers. He earned a master’s degree in music from Eastern Kentucky University.
The Community Band rehearses on Mondays, 7-9 p.m., in Shearer Hall. Rehearsals begin in September and conclude in May with concerts typically scheduled in December, April and May.
