Guest Speaker – Reverend Timothy L. Bates

Reverend Bates is the pastor of two churches: Calvary and Cameron Presbyterian Church in Statesville, North Carolina. Having served on several community boards, currently, he serves on the Blanche and Julian Robertson Board, the Crosby Scholars Board and Gordon Hospice House Ethics Board.

Bates served in the Army Reserves from 1989-1996. With a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Catawba College (1987) and a master’s degree in divinity from Hood Theological Seminary (2006), Reverend Bates is the founder of the Trinity Soldiers, Nightcrawlers and Man Up Monday program (which volunteers in over 20 schools). He has also volunteered for Communities in School and Rowan Helping Ministries.

Reverend Bates is the recipient of numerous awards including the 2023 Robertson Foundation 10 Year Award, 2019 Gemstone and Compass Inspire to Empower Award, 2016 Presidential Recognition Award from the NAACP, and the 2016 Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award.

Bates is married to the love of his life, Yvette Hargrave Bates. They have five children and six grandchildren.
