Disability
Law
The
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law
on July 26, 1990. Mitchell Community College is covered under
Title I (Employment) and Title II (State and Local Government)
of the ADA.
Title
I (effective July 26, 1992) and II (effective January 26,
1992) cover all programs and activities conducted by the college
and extends federal civil rights protection in several areas
to persons who are considered disabled. Built upon a previous
legislation, including the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section
504) and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the act's purpose is
to be a comprehensive mandate for the elimination of discrimination
against individuals with disabilities.
