What is Academic Advising?
Academic advising is an ongoing process
of assessing and evaluating your needs, based on your goals, to help you
navigate through your academic
career. At Mitchell Community College, academic advisors are faculty
members and counselors.
In addition to aiding you with scheduling, course selection and course
load, academic advisors encourage you to become self-reliant and to make
informed decisions; set realistic goals; and develop thinking, learning,
and life management skills for your current and future needs.
Your academic advisor will not make decisions for you, but he or she
may serve as a consultant, helping you make the appropriate academic
and career decisions for you.
Your advisor is your
personal academic and
career consultant.
Your advisor is available to promote your growth and development as
a student. He or she will help you assess your interests and abilities;
examine your educational goals; and develop short-term and long-range
plans to achieve your objectives.
