Welcome to

Music at Mitchell

Welcome to the Mitchell Community College Department of Music. We hope that this website will better orient you to our Music Program, our responsibilities to our students and our expectations of them. Please browse our syllabi on this page as well as on our programs page to learn more about our class offerings. As you visit each of our pages you will be introduced to our upcoming events, our Associate Degree in Music/Music Education, our vocal and instrumental programs/ensembles and our faculty.

We strive to offer our students a high quality musical experience through classroom instruction, individual instruction and performance opportunities. Our program focuses on our Music Majors as well as our non-majors and our community.

At MCC we are able to offer small classes, individual attention and cost effective instruction which equal a personalized experience for you. Our music majors enjoy a unique camaraderie with each other in a supportive environment.

Our Associate degree in Music/Music Education prepares the music major to transfer to a four-year university with numerous courses completed which will lead to a Bachelor degree in Music.

A student with a degree in music has numerous career opportunities ahead of them. Some choices include: Music Education, Music Performance, Music Composition, Music Critic, Music Industry/Business, Music Conducting, Music Therapy, Church Music, Ethnomusicology and many others.

At the Mitchell Community College Music Department we hope to offer an area of expression for our students in which they can develop their artistic skills and growth. We believe that the arts and music are an essential part of human life.

Areas of Study

We offer a wide variety of courses in music. Classes are offered in different formats, both at the Statesville campus and the Mooresville Center and as hybrid classes with online components. On-campus classes are scheduled throughout the day with morning, afternoon, and evening offerings as well as Saturday classes and summer classes.

MCC also hosts several community ensembles. Our community groups include the MCC Community Band conducted by Pam Helms (vholland@mitchellcc.edu) and the MCC Community Choir conducted by Dan Pardue (dpardue@mitchellcc.edu).

Mission

Mitchell Community College, a learning-centered institution, provides affordable, high-quality educational and training programs and services to meet the changing and diverse lifelong learning needs of a multi-culturally diverse citizenry who live and work in a global society.

"A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What one can be, one must be."

Abraham Maslow (1908-1970), American psychologist
