Five Mitchell Community College faculty and staff members were presented the R.D. Grier Excellence in Education Award for their contributions to Mitchell and its students. The award, named in honor of dedicated Mitchell supporter R.D. Grier, recognizes individuals nominated by faculty, staff and students.
Anna Gordon, nursing instructor, received the full-time faculty award. Gordon is a registered nurse whose specialty areas include neonatal, medical/surgical, and mental health. In addition to her instructional responsibilities, she co-chairs the Student Nurses Association, volunteers in community charity events, is a mentor to students in the nursing program, and serves as project director for the Nursing Excellence Grant.

Nancy Fields, student records technician, received the support staff award. Fields graduated from Mitchell and has been at the college for 24 years. She is recognized for always going the extra mile to help others accomplish their goals. She willingly shares her knowledge of college processes with students, faculty and staff.
Mark Niswonger, IT coordinator, received the professional staff award. He is a Mitchell graduate and is known for the excellent support he provides, his ability to solve complex problems, and his interest in streamlining operations. In addition to his full-time position, Niswonger teaches distance learning classes and continues to take classes to stay up-to-date on changes in technology.
Lamont Kinney, facilities technician, received the facilities support award. Kinney’s positive, friendly attitude is enjoyed by faculty, staff and students. He is known for being the “cheerful ambassador” on campus, volunteering his assistance and taking time to talk with and encourage students.
Amy Money, office administration instructor, received the adjunct faculty award. After receiving a GED from Mitchell, Money continued her education at the college and received an associate degree in 2001, graduating with honors. Her experience enables her to relate well with students. She demonstrates patience and enthusiasm in her work.
