Mitchell’s Allied Health Department took part in a pilot for the Personal and Home Care Aide State Training Program (PHCAST). Seven students completed the program led by Pat Pence, instructor and Tara Green-Royster, project manager and evaluator for UNC Institute on Aging.

PHCAST is designed to provide training for personal and home care aides working in complex health care environments such as home healthcare services, residential care facilities, and private households. The goal is to strengthen the direct-care workforce by ensuring that aides have the competencies and acquired skills necessary for direct-patient care.

Mitchell partnered with Home Instead Senior Care and owners, Tracey and Creighton Gibson, for the first pilot class. The Affordable Care Act and the UNC Institute on Aging are funding the program.
