Mitchell’s Jennifer Lippel recognized for academic excellence at state event

Mitchell student Jennifer Lippel was one of 58 community college students recognized for academic excellence at an awards luncheon in Raleigh. The event was part of the NC Community College Excellence in Education Week. Lippel was also named to the state’s All-USA Community College Academic Team.

Lippel is a non-traditional college student who came to Mitchell after running her family homebuilding business and homeschooling her two children. She is fluent in sign language and has worked as an interpreter for the deaf and hard of hearing. She has maintained a 4.0 grade point average while working towards her associate in arts degree which she will receive in May. Lippel plans to continue her education at Gardner-Webb University in human services and pursue her master’s degree in mental health counseling.

While at Mitchell, Lippel has served as the president of Phi Theta Kappa and was the recipient of a 2012 PTK club award and a psychology academic award.
