Quizzes & Tests
Quizzes are represented by the quiz button.
Each time you see this button, the item is a quiz or test. When you first open a quiz, Moodle will display the grading method for the quiz, the number of allowed attempts and whether or not the quiz is timed. To begin a quiz, click on the "Attempt quiz now" button.
After opening the quiz attempt, you will prompted to confirm that you wish to proceed with the quiz.
Timed Quizzes
Quizzes can be timed or have no time limit. With a timed quiz, you will see a timer in the top left corner of the window. The timer will begin as soon as you confrim that you wish to begin this quiz and will continue without pause until it runs out. Submitting individual questions or pages, will not pause the timer and will only use valuable time needed for the quiz. As you move through the test, the timer will move through the page with you.
As the time runs down, the timer will turn red begining when there are 15 seconds left. The timer will continue to turn a darker shade of red until the time expires.
When the tiime has expired, the quiz will automatically end. Any questions completed will be graded and the score provided. Questions that have not been completed, will be marked as incorrect. Please be aware of the timer if it is used during your quiz.
Taking a Quiz
Complete each question on the page. There are many different question types available in Moodle. If you have problems with a quiz or question type, answer the question to the best of your knowledge and then speak to your instructor immediately after completing the quiz. Here are a few question types:
True/False Question
Multiple Choice Question
Short Answer or Essay Question
Saving Your Quiz Answers
If you would like to save your answers without submitting the quiz, click on the "Save without submitting" button at the bottom of the quiz. This is only saving your work for this session. You will need to refer to the quiz directions as to whether or not you can leave a quiz and return to it later on
Submitting Your Answers
There are three ways to submit your answers for a quiz in Moodle. First, you can submit each question, by clicking on the "Submit" button at the end of each question. Depending on the test settings determined by your instructor, you may or may not see the correct answer immediately. Please keep in mind when taking timed quizzes that the timer will not stop while questions are being graded or submitted. Submitting each question can use up valuable time needed to complete the quiz.
The second way to submit answers is to submit a page of questions at a time. Again, based on the quiz settings determined by your instructor you may get immediate feedback on the quiz or feedback may be delayed until after the quiz is completed. To submit a page of answers, click on the "Submit Page" button at the bottom of the page.
Last, you can submit the entire quiz at one time. To do this, click on the "Submit all and finish" button. This submits all the questions and finishes the quiz grading process.
Once you have completed your quiz, you will most often receive feedback and statistics. Based on the quiz settings, the feedback will display each question with your answer, the correct answer, and the date and time you complete the answer. You will also see your total grade for the quiz. To close the review, click on "Finish review."
Multiple Attempt Quizzes
Some quizzes may allow multiple attempts. To retake a quiz, click on the
"Re-attempt quiz" button. You do not have to take the quiz again immediately. You can wait and retake the quiz at a later time.
