MIND Center

The MIND Center is committed to providing quality academic support services that enable students to:

  • develop, enhance, and maximize their learning skills;
  • improve their understanding, achievement, and enjoyment of course work; and
  • employ successful learning strategies for their personal, academic, and professional pursuits.

Located in Room 205 of the Student Services Center, the MIND Center serves students' academic needs with free peer tutoring in most courses by appointment with additional academic support for writing, mathematics, and other courses with learning skills DVDs, textbooks, audiotapes, and handouts.

The MIND Center is staffed by trained personnel who seek to provide a successful and enjoyable working environment for students. General operating hours for the center are 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday. During summer semester and breaks, operating hours may change but will be posted.

Tutors Needed!

The MIND Center is accepting applications for peer tutor positions at the Statesville and Mooresville locations.
Math tutors are in greatest demand.

Tutor Pay:

  • Mitchell students and grads (associate's degree or less) are paid $9.02/hr.
  • Those holding a bachelor's degree or higher are paid $10.48/hr.

Applicants for this position must meet the following qualifications:

  • minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (all institutions attended).
  • minimum GPA of 3.0 in the subject(s) to be tutored.
  • Minimum of 12 college-level credits in core academic subjects required of the major course of study including college-level Math and English 111.

In addition to the above requirements, a transcript review, and an interview are part of the hiring process. Job offers are contingent upon the college's verification of completion of a reference, background check, or other applicable reports. Submitting an application does not guarantee employment.
