Ways to Give

Outright Gifts

Cash
Cash is the simplest way to give. Payments can be made in person or by mail using our contribution form.

Credit Card
Contributions can be made on a one-time basis or on a payment schedule by using Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover.

Online
Contributions can be made easily and securely online via PayPal using Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express.

Pledges
Donors may make a pledge of future gifts. Pledges signify that full payment is expected at some point in the future and are recorded as such. Payment options are flexible and can be invoiced monthly, quarterly, yearly, or on a customized schedule. Pledges can be made by downloading a pledge card or by making a pledge online.

Matching Gifts
Many companies match the charitable contributions their employees make increasing the value of each gift. Check with your company's human resources department to see if they offer a matching gifts program.

Memorial and Honorary Gifts
Designation of a donation in memory or honor of a friend or family member is a great way to recognize an individual whose life has been touched by Mitchell.

Stocks and Bonds
Donations of appreciated stocks or bonds can benefit donors (individuals and corporations), as they may deduct the full market value of appreciated stocks without paying capital gains taxes on the appreciated value.

Real Estate
Gifts of real estate can be an excellent way to make a large gift to the College while enjoying significant tax benefits. Gifts of real estate are typically made as outright gifts or part gift/part sale (also known as a bargain sale) but can also be made as the resource for a charitable remainder trust or retained life estate.

In-Kind Gifts
In-Kind Gifts are a voluntary contribution of goods and services. Examples include equipment, books, artwork, food, or other items. Gifts are reviewed with special care to ensure their usefulness to the College. For more information, call (704) 878-4321.

Naming Opportunities
Opportunities are provided for College facilities to be named in honor or memory of major donors or in memory of someone designated by a major donor. For more information about naming opportunities, call (704) 878-4321.

Planned Giving

It is wonderful to contemplate that Mitchell has been a vibrant institution of learning for more than 150 years. As friends of the College we recognize the significant role it plays in helping to sustain the economic vitality of this community and we are grateful for the educational and cultural opportunities it provides to citizens of our county and beyond. Through the Mitchell Community College Endowment for Excellence (MCCEE), donors are able to make significant planned gifts that will aid, strengthen, and further the work and success of the College. The MCCEE works with donors to create planned gifts through a variety of instruments. A brief description of these planned gifts is provided below.

Charitable Bequests
A gift from your will (or from a trust) allows you to make a future gift to the MCCEE. Our staff will be happy to work with you and your advisors to create the proper language to leave a meaningful bequest to enrich the lives of others through education.

Charitable Trusts
A charitable trust can benefit you and loved ones for years to come. Our staff will be happy to work with you to establish a charitable trust that benefits you and your loved ones and will continue after your lifetime to benefit Mitchell Community College. The MCCEE will work with you and your advisors to determine the right gift vehicle for you, be it a charitable remainder or charitable lead trust and help you identify tax and estate planning benefits of a charitable trust.

Retirement Plan Assets
Retirement plan assets may be ideal for charitable giving because they can be subject to various layers of taxation upon death, including estate and income tax. Making a future gift of retirement plan assets to the MCCEE may reduce your estate tax liability, while allowing you to leave to your loved ones assets that receive more favorable tax treatment. Our staff can work with you and your advisors to determine the effect of a gift of retirement plan assets.

Life Insurance
Life insurance gifts are an easy and often overlooked way for individuals to accomplish charitable goals. Through gifts of life insurance, donors can make a much larger gift than might otherwise be possible and can do so with assets not currently used for income production. They can help provide current tax relief as well as reduce estate taxes. Life insurance can be used to support the MCCEE in a variety of ways:

  • Name MCCEE the beneficiary of a life insurance policy
  • Make a gift of a new or existing life insurance policy to MCCEE
  • Assign dividends of a life insurance policy to MCCEE
