Frequently Asked Questions

High School Students

How much does it cost?

Tuition is free for fall and spring semesters. Students are required to pay fees (approximately $7.50 for 3 credit hours) and purchase their own textbooks.

Who is eligible for Dual Enrollment?

High School students who are 16 years of age or older and are at least ½ time enrolled at the high school. Students must obtain permission from their principal.

How many courses can I take per semester?

You must take at least ½ of your course work at your high school. We recommend that students take no more than two Dual Enrolled Courses per semester.

Can I take Dual Enrolled courses in the summer?

Yes, students are eligible for Dual Enrollment in the summer while in high school but not the summer after graduation. Summer semester is not tuition free.

What classes can be Dual Enrollment?

Math, science and technical courses can be taken as Dual Enrollment. Developmental courses and courses with these prefixes, ACA, ANT, ART, ASL, COM, DRA, ECO, ENG, FRE, GEO, GER, HIS, HUM, MUS, PED, PHI, POL, PSY, REL, SOC, and SPA are not available for Dual Enrollment.

When do the classes meet?

Classes meet according to the times listed in the MCC schedule that can be found on the MCC website before the beginning of each semester.

How does the credit count?

The credit earned is applied toward a college degree but does not count toward high school requirements or toward your high school GPA.

How do I register?

  • Make an appointment to meet with an MCC counselor and take the college placement test. For Mooresville Center appointments call 704.978.5417. For Main Campus appointments call 704.878.3200, press 0 for operator.
  • Obtain a Dual Enrollment Form and get your principal’s signature giving you permission to take the course(s) you select.
  • On Final Registration day, bring the completed Dual Enrollment Form and meet with an MCC counselor to register for your course(s).
