“We Are One” Mitchell International
Festival a Great Success
The Diversity Task Force would like to thank everyone who made
our 2012 International Festival “We Are One” a great success. Hundreds of
students, staff, faculty, families and community members participated at the
festival this past Saturday. It was an absolutely gorgeous day with
interactive booths including Hawaiian Leis, Japanese Calligraphy, Chinese
Chopsticks, Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Eggrolls from Laos and Thailand. The
entertainment was “out of this world” with the Statesville High School Steel
Drums, our own Robert Steadman, Clog Carolina, a Zumba Demonstration, and
Hula Halau. We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Brewer for
allowing us the opportunity to host this event. Special thanks to all the
Student Government Association, International Club, The Diversity Task Force
Committee members and especially to all of the students, family, friends,
volunteers, maintenance, and printing/graphics who participated and made
this event a success. This year’s theme was “We Are One”, and our planning
team and volunteers truly captured that in working together to host a great
event. The biggest win was seeing faces glowing with pride and excitement
about their culture. —Submitted by
