This annual award honors an alumnus who has achieved exceptional career goals, or earned a superior reputation within a particular field, or made significant contributions to the College, or to the local or national community. Alumnus is defined as a person who has obtained a degree, certificate or diploma from the College, or its immediate predecessor, Mitchell College.

2011 - Joe Troutman, Class of 1958
In his years as a student, alumnus, trustee, and friend, Joe H. Troutman ’58 has demonstrated a tireless and enthusiastic effort to support and promote the mission of the College. As a student at Mitchell, Troutman served as the President of the Student Government Association and was voted “Most Popular” by his peers in his senior class. In the 1958 edition of the “Circle,” he is described as “A gentleman in every way…a quality that stands above the rest… friendly…influential…our own Mr. President…Joe.”
Troutman currently serves as treasurer of the Mitchell Community College Alumni Association, a position he has held since 1963. He is a dedicated member of the Mitchell Community College Board of Trustees, serving from 1981-1994 and from 2000 to present. Troutman currently serves as vice-chair and chair of the Building Committee, and has previously as the chair of the Board.
He plays an active role in community life in Statesville and Iredell County through both his vocation and through his public service. Troutman served as an Iredell County Commissioner from 1976 until 1984, and served as chair from 1978-1984.
Troutman is the owner and funeral director of Nicholson Funeral Home, where he works with his two sons, Matthew and William. He is an active member of Broad Street United Methodist Church and is a member of the Rotary Club of Statesville.
